Foyer Design play a key role in designing ALL of Aberdeen Foyer’s materials from business cards, to leaflets, banners to videos, for over 24 years! Having worked closely with staff, young people and service users, it’s given us the added experience in assisting with service design. This has placed us with the right skill set, knowledge, experience and empathy to work with charities and third sector organisations throughout Scotland.

“Foyer Design took me on amazing journey that started with an idea in my head and ended with a interactive, engaging programme for Young People. Their creativity, flexibility, willingness to learn and listen to better understand mine and clients needs was essential factor in creating the final product. FiTMiND wouldn't be so beneficial to Young People if not for Foyer Design!!”

Reboot is an initiative, led by Aberdeen Foyer and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, which utilises a ‘collective impact’ approach to generate systemic changes that can improve outcomes with vulnerable learners of secondary age across Aberdeen.
Foyer Design was asked to create a name for this project, and involve the young people and staff in that process so it represented the user journey. It needed to encapsulated the essence behind the project in a simple and clear name. Reboot was created - when systems are changed and upgraded, a reboot is always required !
We also injected three verbs to summarise the mission of the Reboot Team - to listen, engage and act.
Foyer Design create leaflets for the many services that Foyer offer. Each of these is tailored to the service user and these vary from young people requiring training or skills for employment to adults of any age who are vulnerable or suffering from lack of confidence. Each of them follow the Foyer Brand Guide, to ensure that consistent quality.

“We had an idea of what we may like to put into our wellbeing journal to make it easy to use and enjoyable but Foyer Design put it into reality and gave us a range of ideas on how we could graphically display these ideas.
The journal allows the young person to tick options of how they are feeling and what they are doing. Foyer graphics designed simple pictures to represent possible daily activities and emoji faces to track emotions, which allowed younger people to relate well to the content.
The graphics designed for the cover were representative of our teenagers - the target market for our wellbeing journal. The design was fresh and created the right feel for this type of journal. It featured positive activities and motivational quotes to improve wellbeing for anyone using it. “

Foyer run a programme called ‘Futures’ for young people who need help and motivation with school work and qualifications, to get them on a path towards further eduction or work. They wanted to create a journal of their learning that young people could fill in and see their progress. Staff could give them encouragement and tips, plus fun bits too ! The graphics reflected the fun and dynamic way of learning. Each young person will receive their own booklet to record their journey.
Aberdeen Foyer’s housing service has 52 young people in supported accommodation throughout Aberdeen City and Shire. They had a folder of tenants guidance which required a full re-design to bring it all together in one publication. Foyer Design created an A5 booklet that graphically appealed to young tenants but also displayed the information they needed to know, in a clean, easy to follow way. Every tenants receives a copy of this handbook.
Foyer recently created a programme called Engage for young people living in Aberdeenshire. They wanted a simple video that would promote this service to reach people through social media. Karen, who runs the programme, provided the voice, as it was important that young people heard from staff and identified who they would meet and hear about what the programme offers. Young people also ask questions in the video.
Aberdeen Foyer required a video to give a brief overview of what they do! Not an easy task as they have so many different services. Foyer Design came up with this concept, storyboard, script, music, voice over and final animation. The video has many uses - as an introduction for new staff, for visitors to the charity website and on social media too.
The team created this animated video which brings together a storyboard of illustrated characters, specially written music and a professional voice over.
